See below for the full list of devices, but here are some quick notes about the iPhone/iPad, Android, Sonos and the Bose SoundTouch system, since they are so commonly used.
In regards to the iPhone/iPad and Android phones/tablets), technically, you don’t need anything special to tune in from those. Just open up your device browser, navigate to solopianoradio.com, then launch the player. Here’s the caveat: mobile device web browsers do not support playlist functionality like desktop/laptop browsers do. So when you tune in from a mobile device, you can only access our live audio feed – not the customizeable playlist features (like skipping songs and marking favorites) accessible from laptops and desktops. To access these playlist features from your mobile device, you’ll need the Whisperings app for iPhone/iPad and/or Android. This app is made, sold and supported by a third party (Emphatek) and they do charge $9.99 for it. However, a rebate offer crediting you back the cost of the app is available for active PureStream subscribers who purchase the app AND at least a one year PureStream subscription (for rebate details and how to claim it, select the link to your preferred app below.)
Here’s more info on the Whisperings app by Emphatek:
Details about the Whisperings iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad app.

Beyond the iPhone/Android devices, the most common devices people ask for help connecting with are Sonos devices, the Bose SoundTouch system and Grace Digital Radios. For those, check out…

How to Set up Whisperings PureStream with Grace Digital Radios
Beyond those, Whisperings PureStream is accessible from most devices we’ve encountered by entering in a Custom Stream URL which passes your username/password details to our server for validation and access. Details on how to create and format a Custom Stream URL can be found here.
Here’s an alphabetical list of the devices we know PureStream works with. Most of these work with our Custom Stream URL
For easy scanning, the most popular devices (by far) are listed in RED
- AIMP3
- AirPlay: Turn on Apple AirPlay on your phone or device (here’s how) to send all your phone’s audio to your disired speaker, then either visit our web site at https://www.solopianoradio.com to tune in, or as a better alternative with more features, tune in via the Whisperings App by Emphatek. The App supports AirPlay also, via the icon to the right of the volume slidebar. Once AirPlay is on, all audio on your device should be sent to your speaker system.
- Aluratek Internet Radio: The Aluratek radio uses the vTuner.com radio portal to receive streams. Please read this important information about connecting to Whisperings PureStream with the vTuner service.
- Alexa: Get the Whisperings Radio Alexa Skill (available for the English US, UK, India, Canada and Australia regions only). Once enabled, go to the More > Skills & Games > Your Skills menu in the Alexa app on your mobile device, click on the Whisperings: Solo Piano Radio skill that you see listed there, then click on the Settings button to LINK the skill to your PureStream account. Once linked, say “Alexa, ASK Whisperings Radio to Play PureStream” to start up PureStream. Be sure to visit the skill page to familiarize yourself with all the command options, including how to enable the CUSTOM features (like skip, mark favorites and so on.) Troubleshooting Tip: We’ve had a few customers report that after linking their account from the Alexa app, they still could not get Alexa to recognize PureStream when called up – they’d get silence, or only the free stream would play. The solution in those rare instances seems to be to link the PureStream account from a browser on a computer, rather than from the app. To do this, from a desktop or laptop, go to the Whisperings Solo Piano Radio skill page at https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07V6KF3XK. Login to your Amazon account (if you’re not already logged in) and you’ll see the Disable Skill option on the right. Disable it, then Enable it, and then you’ll see the button option to relink your account. Relink, enter your username/password, and Amazon will attempt to relink the skill to your connected Alexa device. Once successful, say “Alexa, ASK Whisperings Radio to Play PureStream” to start up PureStream. Alexa should recognize when you call up the Ask command for PureStream. From that point on, you should just be able to say “Alexa, play Whisperings Radio” and Alexa will play PureStream by default.
- Android Phones & Tablets: For basic, commercial-free streaming, simply launch our web site player from our home page. NOTE: Mobile device browsers do not support custom playlist functionality, so if you wish to access the more the advanced “customized” features, like skipping songs, marking favorites and so on, you will need to purchase a separate app. Be sure to read up on the Whisperings App for Android by Emphatek which does provide support for these advanced player features.
- Apple HomePod: We don’t have an app specifically for HomePod so you can’t use the Siri commands with it, but you can use Airplay from your iPhone or iPad device to send all your sound from your device to your HomePod speaker. Here’s some information on Apple’s web site on how to do that. Once you have Airplay on and connected to your HomePod sepaker, all sound from the Whisperings App (or your phone’s browser, if you’re using that to tune in) should be directed to your HomePod. You’ll still have to manually navigate the app or player (no voice commands), but that will get your sound to the speaker. You can also turn on AirPlay from within the Whisperings app….you’ll find the Airplay icon/button near the bottom of the main screen, just to the right of the volume slider bar. HomePod supports bluetooth connections also, but Airplay is probably the most direct and simplest way. .
- Apple TV: Just search for, download and install the “WhisperingsTV” (one word) app by Emphatek from the Apple TV app store. Once installed, just go to the Settings screen to enter your PureStream username and password. You can turn on/off the Custom features on this screen as well. NOTE: The WhisperingsTV app requires Apple TV 4th or 5th generation and tvOS 11.4 or later. Here’s how to identify which model you have.
- Arcam Solo Neo: The Arcam uses the vTuner.com radio portal to receive streams. Please read this important information about connecting to Whisperings PureStream with the vTuner service.
- Asus AIR3
- AudioTron by Turtle Beach.
- BlackBerry 9700: See below for setup.
- BluOS / Bluesound Node: You can stream ad-free PureStream to Bluesound via the BluOS Controller App. From the app, you can connect directly into our live feed for PureStream using our Custom Stream URL. First, create and test your Custom Stream URL. Then, in the BluOS Controller App, under the left Navigation Drawer select TuneIn > Favorites. The TuneIn Favorites screen is displayed. Select Add Custom Station. The Add Custom Station modal window is displayed. Enter the Name (Whisperings PureStream) and your Custom URL Select OK. The station is now added under TuneIn Favorites. The newly added Whisperings PureStream link is also available under the left Navigation Drawer in My Favorites > Stations. You can read more detail about this setup on the Bluesound web site right here.
- Bose Music App: Not to be confused with the Bose SoundTouch App (see below), the Bose Music App is a simpler app that unfortunately, does not support the ability to open up a custom stream link. If your Bose speaker supports either Bluetooth or AirPlay, you can connect your mobile device to your speaker via one of those methods to output your devices sound to your speaker directly, then tune into Whisperings using the Whisperings App for iPhone/iPad or Android.
- Bose SoundTouch: You can stream ad-free PureStream to the Bose “SoundTouch” family of speakers and devices via the Bose SoundTouch app. From the app, you can connect directly into our live feed for PureStream using our Custom Stream URL. To do this, make sure you have the latest SoundTouch app update, then go to the Settings/Stream Custom Radio URL menu in the SoundTouch app to add the Custom Stream URL. You’ll find complete information on how to create and format the custom URL for your PureStream account right here. Tip: to “save” PureStream as a preset on the Bose SoundTouch remote, play the stream, then touch and hold the button preset you want to store the stream on until the speaker beeps. NOTE: Not all Bose speakers support the SoundTouch app. Some, such as the basic Bose Wave Radio system, do not support Wi-Fi or bluetooth, so you can only play the radio streams built into the speaker. See the entry above regarding the Bose Music App. PureStream will only work directly via a Bose speaker system (such as the SoundTouch Wave System) that supports the Bose SoundTouch App.
- Chromecast: Simply set up your Chromecast app to mirror your device screen onto your TV… then either visit our web site at https://www.solopianoradio.com to tune in, or as an alternative, tune in via the Whisperings App by Emphatek. If you are mirroring properly, all sound on your device should be sent to your TV speaker system.
- C. Crane WiFi radio : This device works in tandem with Reciva. (See below for Reciva setup). You’ll find information on how to link the C. Crane radio with Reciva on page 28 of the product manual. - Google Home / Google Nest: While it’s not possible to call up and stream Whisperings PureStream directly from Google Home (or Nest), you can stream PureStream through your Home/Nest Hub system indirectly by tuning in from your mobile device (iPhone, iPad or Android) and outputting your devices sound, via bluetooth (or by “casting” your sound), to your Google Home/Nest speakers. Here’s a video that demonstrates how to do this. Once your mobile device is paired, just use it to visit our web site at https://www.solopianoradio.com (or, optionally, use the Whisperings App by Emphatek) and log in. Once logged in, tap the play button and the stream will start. If you’re properly paired, the sound from your device should be directed to your Google Home speakers. You can also connect to your Google Home via Chromecast to accomplish the same thing, mirroring your device screen, via Chromecast, to your TV. Here’s another video that talks about “casting” your music from your device to your Google speakers. Here’s more help/info from Google’s own Nest/Home support docs.
- Grace Digital Wireless Radios: Supported via the Grace Digital Radio portal. See below for details on setting that up.
- HCA-120 Internet Radio Player
- the HEOS app by Denon: Getting PureStream to work on Denon’s HEOS app is a multi-step process as HEOS does not provide a way, on it’s own, to add a Custom Stream URL as is required to tune in PureStream. So what HEOS does to get around this is to make use of custom stations that have been added to TuneIn Radio. So… in order to tune into PureStream via HEOS, you need to first set up an account with TuneIn Radio, and then download and install the TuneIn app on your mobile device. You then need to Add a Custom URL to the TuneIn radio app for PureStream. Denon provides full documentation for this process, including setting up the TuneIn Radio app, on their web site here. Once you have Your PureStream Custom URL set up and working in TuneIn, you then need to launch the HEOS app and connect it to you TuneIn account. You do this in the HEOS App under Music > Settings > Music Sources > Online Music > TuneIn. Once that’s done, you can then go to Music > TuneIn > My Favorites to find the Favorite you set up in TuneIn for PureStream. Once again, all this is based on and covered in Denon’s HEOS documentation.
- iPad: For basic, commercial-free streaming, simply launch our web site player from our home page. NOTE: Mobile device browsers do not support custom playlist functionality, so if you wish to access the more the advanced “customized” features, like skipping songs, marking favorites and so on, you will need to purchase a separate app. Be sure to read up on the Whisperings App by Emphatek which does provide support for these advanced player features.

- iPhone: For basic, commercial-free streaming, simply launch our web site player from our home page.
- iPod Touch: For basic, commercial-free streaming, simply launch our web site player from our home page.
- Kindle Fire: Simply launch our web site player from our home page to tune into PureStream.
- Libratone Zipp (and Mini): The easiest way to connect to PureStream through your Libratone system is to tune into from your mobile device (iPhone, iPad or Android) and pair your device via bluetooth to your Libratone speaker to output your devices sound to your speaker. Here’s a video showing how to pair a device with your Libratone. Once paired, point your mobile device to our web site at https://www.solopianoradio.com and log in. Once logged in, you’ll see our mobile player… tap the play button and the stream will start. If you’re properly paired, the sound from your device should be directed to your speaker. Note it is also possible to connect your speaker to your WiFi and then output your PC/Mac desktop’s sound directly to your speaker. In that case, once your speakers are set up over WiFi, you’d just tune in via our web site as you would normally. Details on how to connect to your Libratone over Wifi can be found in the Libratone manual. As far as tuning in via the Libratone app, the app imports the Internet station list from the vTuner.com radio portal. You *might* be able to add a PureStream URL to vTuner and get that to work. It’s not guaranteed or supported. Please read this important information about connecting to Whisperings PureStream with the vTuner service.
- Linux (including Ubuntu) with Streamtuner/Cmus/Amarok/Rhythmbox/VLC Media Player/mplayer: Supports our Custom Stream URL. See below for mplayer command line.

- Nokia 770 Internet Tablet
- Nokia Lumina 900 Windows Phone: Supports our Custom Stream URL. Open the URL in Internet Explorer on the Phone. That works, but you must keep the browser in the foreground.
- Ocean Digital Radios: Most Ocean Digital radios support our Custom Stream URL by allowing you to manually add a favorite station link via your web browser. To do this, type in the IP Address of your radio (found under the Configuration > Information > Network Information > IP menu), which takes you to the “My Favourite” menu. See this video example.) From there, you can Add a Channel, enter the Custom Stream URL for Whisperings PureStream, Save and click on “Play” to test. Other Ocean Digital radio models allow you to add a custom stream URL via Skytune.net, and others, the My MediaU gateway. You’ll need to check the manual for your particular model to see how (and whether) it supports this functionality. You’ll find a list of Ocean Digital products and the manuals for the various models right here. Look for the options for adding Internet Radio broadcasts in the manual.
- OoTunes: OoTunes can connect to the PureStream live feed directly with a specialized Custom Stream URL. See the step by step instructions here.
- Pearl VR-Radio IRX-510.WLAN
- Phillips NP1100 Media Player

- Roku : If you have a modern Roku device (not the Soundbridge, see next listing for that), you can Add the Whisperings Channel to your Listings. Once added, if you have already have a PureStream account, you can go into the settings screen and enter your PureStream username/password to access the commercial-free stream on Roku. NOTE: The Roku channel app does NOT support the advanced custom player options unfortunately, but you still can access the commercial-free live feed. ANOTHER NOTE: You’ll note that the Roku app offers an in-app an “ad-free” version of Whisperings for .99 cents a month. This built-in Roku option gives you ad-free listening, but ONLY on a Roku device. So this option is not a PureStream account that you can log into from anywhere, but is instead a stripped-down, Roku only version. If you HAVE a PureStream account, you can listen to that anywhere, including the Roku.
- Roku SoundBridge : See below for instructions on how to set up PureStream with the Soundbridge.
- Roon: The Roon Music Server works with the non-secure version our Custom Stream URL (See Alternative Option #2 below. Here’s how to set it up: Click on My Live Radio, then + Add Station. Next, Click, the Add Station URL button (Manually ADD Station) and the Enter Station URL dialog box will open. Enter the Custom Stream URL for your PureStream account. NOTE: Since this is a non-secure URL, we do recommend you use a unique password for your account that you are not using anywhere else. Finally, click the ADD STATION button. Your custom entry should now show up on the “My Live Radio” page.

- Second Life: The Second Life environment *will* work with the non-secure version our Custom Stream URL (See Alternative Option #2 below), however, there are two huge problems with utilizing the Custom Stream URL in Second Life. The first is that your URL, which contains parameters for your username and password, is visible, meaning anyone can see your login details. The second is that if your account is being streamed by another user, no one else, including you, will be able to access it. For these reasons, we do not recommend PureStream for Second Life until these variables change. You can, however, use the free stream URL just fine with Second Life. The stream URL for the free stream is http://pianosolo.streamguys.net/live (we have a secure URL for the free stream, which is https://pianosolo.streamguys1.com/live, however based on customer feedback, Second Life does not work with the secure https feed.)

- vTuner Radio Portal: Please read this important information about connecting to Whisperings PureStream with the vTuner service.
- WinAmp : WinAmp supports our Custom Stream URL, which you can open and play from the File/Play URL menu to start streaming. However, if you have an OLDER version of WinAmp, you may need to put the URL in the “Alternate URL Option #1” format which looks like this: https://USERNAME:[email protected]/secure . The same rules apply regarding the @ symbol in the USERNAME field as do in the regular URL format, so be sure to ready the full Custom Stream URL setup instructions for the details.
- WHAALE Multiroom Player App for AirPlay : Go to the Internet Radio tab / Add Custom Station and add your Custom Stream URL
